Green Street 2005 (Lexi Alexander)

Green Street 2005 (Lexi Alexander)

Stars: Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnam

Score: 84%

"I realized the movie's point is that someone like this nerdy Harvard boy might be transformed in a fairly short time into a bloodthirsty gang fighter. The message is that violence is hard-wired into men, if only the connection is made." Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

Green Street is a brutal statement of intrinsic male desires for violence. Elijah Wood fantastically plays a Harvard drop out that becomes accepted into a London football gang, or 'firm'.

To me the film was more than just mob fighting, it showed how male behaviour can change in a unified mob mentality and how this mentality can affect anyone despite their class. Matt for example (Elijah Wood) is American not English, and outstandingly middle class. Yet, he gradually becomes excepted into the GSE (Green Street Elite). The well mannered student begins to enjoy and thrive in his new environment which shows him new outlooks to words like unity and fraternity.
